Oklahoma State Cowboys Down Texas Longhorns 6-5 In Big 12 Championship Game

The Oklahoma State Cowboys remained perfect throughout Big 12 Tournament. Downing the Texas Longhorns by a final of 6-5 in the Championship Game, O-State remained perfect in Oklahoma City. Claiming the title of Big 12 Champion, the Cowboys now receive an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.

Falling into a 3-1 hole through three innings, OSU remained clam in the face of adversity. Stepping up to the plate in the top of the fourth, Bryce Fischer doubled down the left field line. Although Jon Littell was thrown out at first, the sacrifice moved Fischer ninety feet from scoring the first run with one out.

Drawing back-to-back walks, the Cowboys quickly found themselves in a bases loaded situation. While Texas opted to change pitchers, Oklahoma State remained unfazed as Ryan Cash stepped up swinging the bat.

With a single hit, two runs crossed home plate cutting the lead down to 3-2. However, OSU wasn’t quite done in the inning. With base runners Garrett McCain singled to left field affording Cameron Dobbs a bit of space to run. As Dobbs rounded third, it was evident the freshman would score to even the numbers on the board.

In the sixth inning, the usual suspect of McCain pushed Cash across the plate once again. Taking the lead for the first time during the outing, the Cowboys refused to relinquish the edge.

Trading runs in the seventh, the Lonrhorns managed to score twice to OSU’s one. But, the door was quickly shut LHP Carson Teel who stepped in to begin the eighth inning. Securing two scoreless innings, Teel earned the save as Oklahoma State claimed sole possession of Big 12 Tournament Champions.
