Oklahoma State 45 – Pittsburgh 38 | Rapid Recap

After last week’s atrocity in Stillwater, the Cowboys entered this weekend with their focus on one thing: redemption. Oklahoma State did just what they set out to do, defeating the Pittsburgh Panthers 45-38 nearly six hours after kickoff. Not even a 90-minute rain delay could keep the Cowboys from getting the win today.

#Rudolph2Washington

Last week, Mason Rudolph struggled with throwing the deep ball accurately, but he did much better this week. Rudolph opened the game with a 91-yard touchdown to James Washington. Rudolph struggled at times, especially in the second half, but he ended up throwing 26/46 for a school-record 540 yards and two touchdowns. Washington was four yards shy of breaking the school-record for receiving with 296 yards, and he caught both of Rudolph’s touchdowns.

Run Game Shows Progress

Oklahoma State’s run game has been nothing short of pathetic for a while now, but they were finally able to get something going today, mostly due to Rennie Childs’s 67-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Childs finished with 101 yards and four touchdowns on only ten carries.

Defense Shredded, Still Able to Make Plays

Pittsburgh’s run-game was clearly their strong point coming in to the game, and they proved that was the case racking up 290 yards on the ground which led to three touchdowns. The Cowboy defensive line did step up on several big downs, however, to make stops when needed.

Panther QB Nathan Peterman is a mediocre passer, but he played a decent game, throwing 14/29 for 237 yards a touchdown, but Cowboy DB Ramon Richards came up big with a clutch interception for the second week in a row. Pittsburgh had less than a minute to march down the field to try to tie the game, but Richards put any chance of that to bed as he picked off Peterman with only fifteen seconds to play.

Gundy Says What We Are All Thinking

Immediately following the game, Oklahoma State Head Coach Mike Gundy said, “What a game. All the big plays! I do like offensive plays.” While the defenses for both teams looked pretty terrible at times, this shootout was a ton of fun to watch.
