Bob Stoops announced on Monday that the Oklahoma Sooners will be without running back Samaje Perine for the next few weeks due to a slight muscle pull. OU’s opponents during that span are at Texas Tech, Kansas, and at Iowa State.
Perine, a junior from Plfugerville, Texas, is one yard behind redshirt sophomore Joe Mixon with 475 rushing yards on the season. He is averaging 5.4 yards per carry and has scored a team-high six rushing touchdowns this season.
In his absence, Mixon will take over the bulk of the carries. One of the nation’s top all-purpose backs, Joe Mixon is averaging 6 yards per carry and also has recorded 208 receiving yards on 18 receptions.
Freshman Abdul Adams will also see more significant playing time as well. A native of Landover, Maryland, Adams saw has 24 carries for 102 yards on the season. He has also caught two passes for eighteen yards. In last Saturday’s 38-17 win over Texas Tech, Adams saw his most significant amount of playing time of the season due to Perine’s injury. He ended the day with eleven yards on six carries.
