While we are still awaiting confirmation from either Joe Mixon or OU, but conflicting reports are out that say that Mixon is declaring for the NFL Draft and also that he is returning to OU. Here are the reports.
#Sooners RB Joe Mixon will enter the 2017 #NFLDraft. @STL_Sportsgroup & @PeterJSchaffer will represent. Will train at @mjp360.

It was then followed up by this tweet fr0m Carey Murdock.
Source told me Mixon was being advised by @peterjschaffer during his video release. This report has legs. https://t.co/RBrHrFYCQj

And then there is this…
I'm told by @STL_Sportsgroup no truth to this report, said believes he's returning to #Sooners. Have message out to @peterjschaffer. #Mixon https://t.co/Jdk2XPAU0g

So while we are still awaiting final confirmation, lets state the obvious. Losing both Samaje Perine and Joe Mixon would obviously be a major blow for the Sooners next season. They will have the following players on scholarship next year: Rodney Anderson (returning from neck injury), Abdul Adams, Trey Sermon, Kennedy Brooks, and JUCO transfer Marcelias Sutton.
While that group of players has some legitimate talent, there is no question that it lacks in experience. If indeed Joe Mixon is headed to the NFL, we wish him nothing but success, all the while hoping he can help others learn from his past mistakes.
We will continue to follow this situation closely and will update this post as needed.
