Oklahoma State Dismisses LB Brendan Vaughn

Depth at the linebacker position has been a concern for the Oklahoma State Cowboys football program. Possibly looking at dipping further into the roster, one player has been removed as an option. Red shirting this season, Brendan Vaughn will not see the field as a Cowboy. It was announced yesterday afternoon that the freshman has been dismissed from the program.

Over the weekend, Vaughn was taken into custody by Oklahoma State Campus police after officers responded to a possible drug law violation. Arriving at the door of Vaughn’s residence, the freshman linebacker granted officers permission to search his room. Upon searching the room a “green leafy substance” was found and believed to be marijuana.

Placing Vaughn under arrest, the remaining search turned up $2,000 in cash along with several other bags of the same substance. Informed of the situation, Gundy and his staff made a decision on Sunday to dismiss the true freshman. “He’s been off our team since Sunday,” OSU coach Mike Gundy told the Oklahoman On Tuesday. “Anytime you violate team rules, immediately you’re off our team.”

Following the incident, Vaughn mentioned to an officer that he was not employed and the cash came from selling marijuana.
