Red River Rivalry Performance Earns Oklahoma’s Obo Okoronkwo Conference Honor

Oklahoma defensive specialist Ogbonnia Okoronkwo has accomplished a lot during his stellar career. One of the few things that has eluded him through three and a half seasons as a Sooner has been the weekly Defensive Player of the Week award. That ended on Monday when the Big 12 honored him with the award for his performance against Texas at the Cotton Bowl.

During Oklahoma’s 29-24 win, Obo recorded five tackles, a sack, a forced fumble, a pass breakup and five quarterback hurries. The university can’t say this but I can, just imagine how much greater of an impact he would have had on the game had the officials actually flagged the Longhorns for holding.

On the season, Obo leads the Big 12 and is tied for eighth nationally with 6.0 sacks. He also leads the conference and is tied for second nationally with three forced fumbles, and ranks second in the Big 12 with 10.0 tackles for loss.
