Oklahoma State Finds Hidden Gem In Rockwall Defensive End

Cutter Cleveland’s dreams are coming true! Infatuated with the color Orange and a big fan of Pistol Pete, Cleveland grew up a fan of Oklahoma State. “I have loved OSU since a little kid so it was an answered prayer,” he said about receiving an offer from the Cowboys last week.

That offer arrived on Thursday and Cleveland committed on Friday. “I loved the color orange, my dad was a big Texas fan but I always liked the bright orange better,” Cutter said. “I also loved the mascot.”

A little known defensive end from Rockwall, Texas, Cutter Cleveland had received interest from smaller schools prior to Oklahoma State moving in. Angelo State, Henderson State, and Southern Nazarene had put offers on the table but Cleveland was dreaming bigger.

“My first contact was with Coach Will Wright,” Cleveland said about his recruiting process. “I reached out to him, sending him my film and expressing my interest in the school, and he liked my film a lot and passed it along to Coach (Joe Bob) Clements and from then on they have been so welcoming. It’s honestly the best coaching staff I’ve ever come in contact with, that also played a huge part in my commitment.”

At 6-3/210, Cleveland is the type of hybrid player who can come off the line as a pass rusher from the defensive end position or drop back to a linebacker spot. “Really it is a combination,” Cleveland said of his playing style. “I can play any technique they are in need of. Three of the best perks to my game is my speed, ability to make plays when needed, and also the ability to play anywhere I’m needed.”

When asked about seeing himself as a defensive end at Oklahoma State, Cleveland said that’s exactly where he sees himself but was clear that he’s open to being where the Cowboys need him. “Yes sir I do,” he responded about seeing himself as a defensive end. “I also feel I can play the cowboy back or anywhere else they need. I’m open to play anywhere that helps the team win.”

After recording 75 total tackles, 11 for loss, and 5 sacks as a senior last season, the Cowboys look like they’ve found a hidden gem in Cutter Cleveland. His commitment brings OSU to a total of 22 for a 2018 class that is ranked Top 30 by 247Sports.
