Baker Mayfield Tabbed Manning Award Winner

It’s been over two weeks since the Oklahoma Sooners’ season came to an end. However, that hasn’t stopped Baker Mayfield from claiming yet another award. On Thursday afternoon, the Manning Award announced the senior quarterback as the recipient of the trophy.

Each and every year, the Manning Award is given to the nation’s top quarterback with one caveat. It’s the only award that takes bowl performances into consideration. Beating out the likes of J.T. Barrett and Mason Rudolph, the trophy marks the seventh of the year for Mayfield.

Over the course of his career, Mayfield dropped a mere six games in a Sooner jersey. Finishing his career with 12,292 total passing yards alongside a 69.8% completion rate, the quarterback enters the NFL Draft as one of the most intriguing prospects. Currently, expected to be taken in the first round, some believe he is worthy of the first overall pick. Others, of course, aren’t willing to go quite as high tabbing Mayfield as a top five pick in the upcoming draft. Still, a few others seem to think he’ll fall outside of the top ten.

At this point it’s anybody’s guess. But, one thing we know for sure is that Mayfield will go down as one of the best quarterbacks to ever play on the collegiate level.
