Oklahoma Completes Two-Game Sweep Of Texas Southern With 10-1 Win

Oklahoma right fielder Steele Walker walked off the field on Wednesday night just two RBI short of a milestone. The junior, from Prosper, Texas, has 98 career RBI after a performance that saw him knock in a run in each of his first three at bats, helping the Sooners to a 10-1 win over Texas Southern.

The Tigers struck first in the top of the opening frame but Oklahoma struck back in the bottom half, and struck back hard. Cade Harris and Brandon Zaragoza led off the bottom of the first with singles, setting up Walker to drive in his first RBI of the evening with a double to right-center field. Sophomore Brady Lindsley extended his hitting streak to seven games with a 2-RBI double, and Kyle Mendenhall brought in the fourth run of the inning with an RBI single.

The Sooners would explode for three more runs in the fourth, two in the fifth, and one more in the sixth to plate a total of 10 runs on 15 hits.

Kyle Tyler struck out ten batters, in six innings of work, to pick up the first win of his Oklahoma career. Ryan Madden, Jake Terry, and Zack Matthews allowed just three hits total while combining to pitch three innings of relief.

Oklahoma has now won eight of their last ten games and improved their season record to 12-7. They’ll remain home over the weekend for a three-game series against Kennesaw State.
