With 23 days remaining before kickoff, the anticipation of the season continues to build. Across the nation, programs vie for one of four spots in the upcoming College Football Playoff. However, CBS predicts four familiar faces are primed to make the claim of “Last Four Standing.”
One of those programs just so happens to be the Oklahoma Sooners. Forced to replace key players on the offensive side of the ball, an appearance in the CFP remained on the table. Yet, the defensive struggles of last year quickly wiped the thought to the floor. Can this offensive unit produce enough points to bail out the defense without Baker Mayfield calling the shots?
Apparently, the questions on the defensive side of the ball are being met with answers following the beginning of camp. Why? CBS believes the Sooners can claim the No. 4 seed pitting the crimson and cream against the No. 1 seeded Alabama Crimson Tide in the Cotton Bowl. Of course, all of this is speculation at this point of the year. Yet, it speaks to the level of talent in Norman, Oklahoma.
The other two programs earning CFP bids are none other than No. 3 Ohio State and No. 2 Clemson. Seeing heavy hitters entering the equation this early certainly puts the pressure on as three of the four predictions have claimed the title in this format. Needless to say, it’ll be interesting to see how it all shakes out!
