Oklahoma Sooners Football | Austin Seibert Etches Name In Record Books

Over the years, the Oklahoma Sooners’ skill players have continuously put stress on even the best defenses. Scoring at will, the program has produced some of the nation’s top individual performances as well. This year is no different as Austin Seibert takes over the role of the Big 12’s All-Time Leading Scorer.

The kicker entered the weekend needing just five points to overcome the previous holder of the record, Michael Hunnicutt. In a high scoring first half, opportunity knocked on the door. Answering the call Seibert connected on two extra points as well as a field goal. Collecting the five points needed, the four year starter entered not only the school record books but also the Big 12 record books with 452 points and counting.

Starting his career at Oklahoma during the 2014 season, the kicker listed three goals he’d like to accomplish before ending his time in Norman on campus.

1. Start as a freshman

2. Win the Lou Groza Award as college football’s best kicker

3. Become the all-time leading scorer in Sooners’ history

The four year starter can now check two items off the bucket list above leaving just one unmarked. Appearing on the Lou Groza Award watch list to begin the season, it appears as thought the rest is unfortunately news for the senior. Announcing the semi-finalist list earlier this year, Seibert’s name was noticeably absent. Regardless to work on the field has not gone unnoticed!
