Oklahoma Sooners QB Kyler Murray Wins Heisman Trophy

Closing the gap in the conversation over the course of the season, Kyler Murray built a case for the Heisman Trophy. Responsible for 51 touchdowns, the Oklahoma Sooners’ signal caller entered New York as the odds on favorite to win despite stiff competition. While all three finalists are certainly deserving of consideration, only one can claim the prize.

Stepping out onto the stage to reveal the results, Kyler Murray’s name was read aloud. Labeled as the 83rd Heisman Winner over the likes of Tua Tagovailoa and Dwayne Haskins, the quarterback joins one of the most prestigious clubs in all of college football. However, the announcement also puts the Sooners in a unrivaled company. For the first time in the history of the award, two different players from the same school have won the award in back-to-back years. (Matt Leinhart and Reggie Bush previously completed the feat but the Bush year was later vacated.)

Over the duration of the year, Murray proved to be an integral piece of the Oklahoma Sooners offense. Completing 241 pass attempts, the quarterback racked up 4,053 yards of offense through the air. Throwing for 40 touchdowns to seven interceptions, it isn’t his arm that made this player special. On the ground, Murray racked up 892 rushing yards which ranks third on the team. Needless to say, the QB was expected to score on every possession and delivered time and time again.

It’s a well deserved award for a one in a life time player! Congratulations to Murray on the accomplishment not only tonight, but throughout the entire year.
