Friday Locks | Week 1

We’re looking to rebound from a poor Week 0 effort as the 2022 college football season gets underway with the first weekend with a full slate of games. Cincinnati, Notre Dame, and Clemson are all put in our spotlight this week, among others. Feel free to let us know where you agree or disagree with our picks and why.

Last Week’s Picks

This Week’s Picks

Craig

Cincinnati (+6.5) at Arkansas | This could potentially be the game of the week. I think Cincinnati keeps it close. Don’t be surprised if they even pull off the win.

Ole Miss (-21.5) vs. Troy | It will be interesting to see how the Ole Miss offense does this year with a new QB and a new offensive coordinator. I think they’ll do just fine in the opener with a big win over Troy.

Clemson (-22) at Georgia Tech | A conference matchup to start the season? You already know Clemson will be ready to go. I’ve got them winning this one in a big way.

Matt

Colorado (+13.5) vs. TCU | Sonny Dykes takes the helm of the TCU program and certainly has some big shoes to fill. He can build trust and confidence among the Purple Nation by starting off his tenure with a road win in Boulder.

On the other hand Karl Dorrell has his back against the wall and must produce a winner in 2022. He’ll have to figure out a way to make his offense work despite losing last year’s leading rusher and three of the top 5 receivers. The good news for the Buffs is that TCU’s defense nearly surrendered 35 points per game in 2021.

Cincinnati (+6.5) at Arkansas | I think this will be a fun, but slow-paced game, give me Cincinnati to use its massive offensive line to grind this out and keep it close on the road.

Notre Dame (+17.5) at Ohio State | A Top 5 matchup in Week 1? Yes please!!! I think the Irish will try to control the pace of this game and try to grind against the Ohio State defense. They’ll have the offensive line to do so but new quarterback Tyler Buchner will have to make some plays with his arm in order to keep the Buckeye defense balanced.

Zack

Notre Dame (+17.5) at Ohio State | This is a tough one. On one hand, I think Ohio State is overrated at #2. On the other hand, I think Notre Dame is overrated at #5. In the end, 18 points is a lot for a season opener between two blue bloods, so I’m going to hope for a closer game for primetime Saturday night on opening weekend.

Utah State (+41.5) at Alabama | Picking against Alabama in Week 1 seems like a terrible idea, but this spread is huge. Utah State did not play great in their first game, but I think they can play well enough to keep this within 6 touchdowns.

Clemson (-22.5) at Georgia Tech | Last season was a bit of a letdown for the Tigers as far as expectations go, but they finished on a strong note and come into this season ranked at #4. Georgia Tech played Clemson close in 2021, but I think life gets back to normal in terms of the Tigers kicking that Yellow Jacket butt. This should be a blowout of mass proportions.
