The Matt Viator era got underway with a bang for ULM as the Warhawks equaled half of their win total from 2015 with a 38-21 win over Southern on Saturday evening. Led by a strong rushing attack ULM surpassed their 2015 scoring average by seventeen points. They also held Southern to 15 fewer points than what their defense averaged in surrender last season. However, they’re far from a perfect team and should allow Oklahoma the necessary level of competition to correct some mistakes without fear of a major upset.

Oklahoma’s 33-23 loss to Houston on Saturday was a direct result of two factors. First, the Cougars were a better team that day and we don’t want to take away from that at all. Houston was #15 going in and #6 coming out. Reason why? They’re just dang good!

Oklahoma vs. Houston | Offensive Position Grades & The Cause Of The Offensive Stall

Oklahoma returned home from Houston with an 0-1 record and a whole lot of work still to do. Among the things that the Sooners must figure out is what happened to the offense and how to prevent it from happening again. The problem isn’t difficult to diagnose but the symptoms could be a bit misleading. Those symptoms, 5 sacks and a disappearing passing attack, resulted in OU’s offensive stall and ultimately the loss.
