Oklahoma 23 -Houston 33 | Immediate Thoughts

If it could have gone wrong for Oklahoma on Saturday it did. While Houston was scoring with offense and special teams the Sooner offense faded away into oblivion. While we certainly shouldn’t take anything away from a Houston team that is set up to have an outstanding season, there are a lot of flaws that were exposed with the 2016 edition of Oklahoma Football at NRG Stadium.

Oklahoma Football Keys To Success In Houston

Let’s be honest here. The Sooners haven’t been stellar in season openers away from Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. That’s not necessarily an indicator that things will go south in Houston on Saturday though. Oklahoma returns its most talent laden team since Sam Bradford led the boys out of the tunnel in Jerry World back in 2009. OK, perhaps that’s a bad example. However, expectations were high back in `09 and they’ll remain every bit as high when OU takes the field at NRG Stadium this morning as well.

Oklahoma State’s Mason Rudolph has everything a coach would want in a quarterback. He’s confident and level-headed. He has a cannon for an arm, and accuracy to go with it. At 6-5/235 he’s got the size coaches look for. However, the best thing that Mason Rudolph has going for him is that he gets to be the trigger man in an offense that likes to sling the ball all over the field. All of these factors combined is what will make him the best NFL quarterback prospect to take the field for a Big 12 school this season.
