Oklahoma City Thunder | Game #6 Preview: Golden State Warriors

Late in the game Wednesday night, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander hyperextended his knee, resulting in a sprain that will keep him out of tonight’s game as the Thunder open up the NBA In-Season Tournament at home against the Golden State Warriors. Missing Shai is a big hit for OKC, but it will give the Thunder an opportunity to try to figure some things out without having to rely on their superstar. Meanwhile, the Warriors are at full strength and currently tied for second in the West with a 4-1 record.

Thunder Against the Spread | OKC A Near Double-Digit Dog at Golden State

OKC’s odds of clinching the 10th seed for the play-in spot are still pretty good. Dallas continues to lose, and it’s a good thing, too, because OKC can’t seem to beat even the teams they should be beating. With that in mind, I’m hesitant to think the Thunder even has a chance tonight, but I think they’re due for a cover, if not an outright win. The game is really going to come down to OKC playing solid defense, which they haven’t done a lot of lately until the second half against the Suns on Sunday. If the Thunder can at least slow down the Warriors, I like their chances at covering the spread.

OKC Thunder | Game #80 Preview: Golden State Warriors

The Oklahoma City Thunder continued their struggle down the final stretch of the season as they fell to the Phoenix Suns 128-118 at home on Sunday evening. The Thunder showed promising signs of being able to compete with the league’s best, but with just a few games left, OKC has yet to clinch a play-in spot. They could do that tonight as they head out on the road to take on the Golden State Warriors.

Thunder Against the Spread | Can OKC Cover (And Beat) the Warriors?

I’m not even going to lie: I’m taking the Thunder to win because I want them to win the game, not because I’m convinced they will. I definitely think OKC has what it takes to get the win, especially if Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has another big game like he did on Sunday and the supporting cast performs well. Jalen Williams is questionable to play due to a sprained wrist, so that is a bit worrisome. Draymond Green is probable to play, but if he ends up sitting, the Warriors will be missing a key role on both ends of the floor. As of now, I’m sticking with the Thunder to cover and win.

Thunder Against the Spread | Take OKC As Road Dogs Against Curry-less Warriors

When these two teams met just a week ago, the Warriors shot the lights, and OKC struggled early. Down by 20 in the first half, the Thunder roared back to make it a 2-point game midway through the fourth, but they couldn’t get over the hill, and a handful of late free throws pushed Golden State to cover the spread. Now the Warriors are without Steph, and even though this one is at Chase Center, I can see the Thunder pulling this one out.

Tonight’s matchup looks a little different from a week ago as Steph Curry will is now out for a few weeks due to injury. With no Curry, the Warriors will rely more heavily on Jordan Poole, which could work either way for the Thunder. Poole is one of the league’s top turnover artists, but he’s also incredibly crafty, so if he plays an efficient game, it could bite OKC in rear. With Luguentz Dort still out due to a strained hamstring, the Thunder will really need to lock in on defense, something they struggled with early in the first meeting between these two teams.

OKC Thunder | Game #51 Preview: Houston Rockets

The Thunder hits the road on Wednesday night to take on the ailing Houston Rockets. When it comes to tanking, nobody does it quite like the Rockets who are 16 of their last 19 games to get to 12-38 on the season. It’s not difficult to lose intentionally when you’re roster is as inexperienced and incomplete as Houston’s is, but it doesn’t help when guys are out due to injury as well. Still, when it comes down to it, the Rockets just aren’t very good (yet).

OKC Thunder | Game #50 Preview: Golden State Warriors

Not too long ago, the Oklahoma City Thunder was a championship contender and in the thick of building a great new rivalry in NBA basketball. Viewed as one of the only teams in the league that could legitimately go toe-to-toe with the Golden State Warriors, a dynasty in the making, every matchup was must-see TV. We all know how that story ended, though, as Kevin Durant entered free agency, actually chose to go to the Warriors, and the rivalry slowly dissolved from there.

The Oklahoma City Thunder has held down the fort valiantly since Shai Gilgeous-Alexander went out with a sprained ankle. Even in defeat, OKC has kept games close and put themselves in a position to win. Tonight is the toughest test of the last couple of weeks as the Thunder plays host to the Golden State Warriors.
