Not only does Lincoln Riley expect Kyler Murray to play football for his Sooners next fall, he expects him to be with the team for summer workouts as well. Speaking to a group of fans and media in Tulsa on Thursday night, Riley said that not only is he not worried about the upcoming MLB Draft, he doesn’t care about as it regards to his football team.
“I don’t really care a whole lot about what happens in the draft,” Riley said. “I’ve had good conversations with Kyler, his family and I fully expect him to be with us. I really don’t have any worries about it.”
Even so, Oklahoma fans are still going to have their worries until they hear Murray commit to football following the draft. Riley won’t be in that category though.
“Everybody else has been a lot more worried about it than me,” Riley said. “I haven’t lost one night of sleep on it, so I apologize if anyone else has. I mean, I knew the deal getting into it. When he first decided to leave A&M we had very candid conversations with him and his family about it. They have lived up to their word — every part of it. I have no doubt they’ll continue to do so and I think they’d say the same about us.”
Last summer Murray played 16 games for the Harwich Mariners of the Cape Cod Baseball League but Riley’s confidence in his quarterback goes a step further in that he doesn’t believe Murray will be on the diamond this summer.
“He’ll be with us this summer,” Riley said.
