Unpopular Opinion | Oklahoma State Cowboy Offense Cannot Keep Pace In A Shootout

On Saturday, Oklahoma State ran away with the game against a ranked opponent in front of a home crowd. Raising not only the stock in the program but also the perception of the Big 12 Conference, fans could not be happier. However, the reality is that the Cowboys only scored 28 offensive points against the No 68 scoring defense in Boise State. Simply put, that’s not going to cut it as conference play begins.

There’s no denying that the Big 12 has produced some of the most prolific offenses known to college football history. A quick glance across the league and that does not appear to be changing anytime soon. Currently, seven of the ten programs average at least 35 points per game. Clearly, a few barn burners await fans across the Midwest. Truth be told, the nation may be treated to one this upcoming weekend as the Pokes and Texas Tech collide.

Ramping up the skill set and talent level throughout the remainder of the season, the Cowboys are going to be enticed to keep pace. It’ll be interesting to see just how the group responds to a high flying offense in conference play. But, at this point in time, I’m still not sure the Taylor Cornelius led offense is ready for prime time.
