Storylines
During the 1940’s and 50’s, the two programs claimed a total of six national championships. Clearly at the top of the college football realm, it could only last so long before the run ended. At the turn of the decade, much had changed as Army and Oklahoma collided during the 1961 season. Despite winning the contest 14-8, the Sooners finished the year 5-5.
Fast forward to today and it’s not often that the service academies find themselves competing with the high flying offenses of the Big 12. Yet, the academies have fared well against the spread due to time of possession. Employing a triple option attack keeps the ball on the ground the clock rolling while effectively limiting the number of possessions for the opposing offense.
Needless to say, the linebackers and defensive line must be up to the task today. That leaves the corners out on an island to break up any pass attempts.
