When the first round of the NFL Draft ended and Cody Ford was still on the board it was clear that someone was going to be getting a steal of a deal in the second round. That deal went to the Buffalo Bills with the 6th pick of the second round (38th overall pick).
Ford was the third Oklahoma player selected in the first two rounds of the 2018 NFL Draft. He joins Kyler Murray, who was the top overall pick by Arizona, and Marquise Brown who went to Baltimore with the 25th pick of the first round.
Even as a redshirt, in 2015, Cody Ford was special. He won the Scout Team Offensive Player of the Year award that year, setting the expectation for big things to come in the seasons to follow.
Those “big things” would be put on hold when Ford suffered a broken leg against Ohio State in 2016, resulting in him missing the remainder of the season. He came back bigger and stronger, some would even say meaner, in 2017 to set the tone for one of the better two-year runs for an Oklahoma lineman in recent memory.
By the time he finished his career at Oklahoma Ford was a first-team All Big 12 selection and anchored a line that won the Joe Moore Award for the best offensive line in the country.

Strengths
- Possesses size and strength.
- Has the experience and versatility to play both guard and tackle.
- Likes to punish defenders and finishes off blocks.
- Gets downfield quickly.
- Flexibility helps him recover on blocking a defender who may have gotten a first step on him.
Weaknesses
- Will need some additional work to become an NFL Tackle.
- Needs better footwork against speed rushers.
- Could use some improvement on balance.
