What began as a message board rumor has now grown legs and become a full story. Oklahoma running back Trey Sermon is planning to enter the transfer portal with the most likely landing destination being Ohio State.
One of the top guys in an extremely deep, and talented, backfield group, Sermon ran for 2,076 yards and 22 touchdowns during three seasons at Oklahoma. He also averaged 10.9 yards per reception out of the backfield with another three scores.
Ohio State makes sense for Sermon. The Buckeyes were in on him pretty heavy coming out of high school, plus with the departure of J.K. Dobbins to the NFL there bulk of the workload will fall on him as opposed to splitting reps with Kennedy Brooks at Oklahoma.
While the loss of a senior back is a shame from a fan perspective, it doesn’t leave the Sooners in a bad spot. Oklahoma has the aforementioned Brooks, who could be an early entrant into next year’s NFL Draft (7.5 YPC), a healthy Marcus Major and T.J. Pledger coming back plus freshman Seth McGowan who is on campus now for the spring semester.
