RIP To The XFL, Gone Too Soon

The XFL season came to a stop on March 20th due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Fans were disappointed at the time, but the league promised to be back for a 2021 season.

However, it was announced on Friday, April 10th that the league had suspended all operations with no plans of a return in 2021.

The XFL brought a much needed fresh take on the best sport in the world. This league brought relief to so many of the complaints in the NFL. With the slogan “For The Love Of Football”, the XFL was truly a promising concept for football fanatics.

They didn’t shy away from big hits, or put too much protection on quarterbacks. At the same time, the league showed extreme concern for player safety by altering the way kick-offs worked.

The biggest assumption for the shut down is that Vince McMahon was depending on income from the WWE to fund the new league in its developing stages. However, with WWE stock taking a major hit as well due to the virus, McMahon had to make a business decision.

Here at Heartland Sports we truly had the best time covering the Dallas Renegades. With Coach Stoops at the helm, and Landry Jones under center, there was almost too much nostalgia for Sooner fans.

The XFL ended way too soon, but not before we got some pretty cool highlights. Check out some of the best moments in the XFL.
