The Sooners are heading towards a Halloween night matchup with the Red Raiders in Lubbock. Coming off back-to-back wins over Texas and TCU, Oklahoma heads out west a bit rejuvenated from a 1-2 start to the season and still in the hunt for a conference title. Here are some things you might find interesting at the mid-week point.
- Texas Tech is riding on a high note themselves. The Red Raiders scored a win over West Virginia last week to snap a three-game losing streak. There are some saying that this is the best win since Matt Wells arrived in Lubbock.
“What makes this win the most impressive of the Wells era is the fact that Tech finally found a way to overcome adversity over the course of an entire game to come out on top. This was the first time that a Wells Red Raider team won a game that was tied in the fourth quarter and it was also the first time that the second-year head coach won a game for Tech when his team didn’t jump out to a huge early lead and play from ahead for four quarters.”

- Oklahoma owns a 21-6 record against Texas Tech (8-4 in Lubbock) and has won each of the last eight games in the series. OU is averaging 50.6 points, 604.8 yards and 294.4 rushing yards per contest during the streak.
- According to the college football odds from SportsBettingDime.com, the Sooners are 14-point favorites over the Red Raiders and 85% of the action so far is on Texas Tech.
- Since Lincoln Riley, a 2006 Texas Tech graduate, arrived at Oklahoma as offensive coordinator in advance of the 2015 season, the Sooners are averaging 56.8 points and 683.0 yards in their five games against the Red Raiders. They have registered at least 617 yards in all five contests (617 in 2015, 854 in 2016, 617 in 2017, 683 in 2018 and 644 last year) and are averaging 9.0 yards per play. OU’s 3,415 total yards in those contests equates to 1.94 miles.
- This will be the 28th all-time meeting between Texas Tech and Oklahoma as the Red Raiders will be looking to snap an eight game losing streak against the Sooners. Oklahoma controls the overall series between the two schools with a 21-6 all-time record versus the Red Raiders.
- Oklahoma is hoping to have reinforcements this weekend with Ronnie Perkins, Rhamondre Stevenson, and Trejan Bridges reinstated from an NCAA suspension. As of Tuesday though that isn’t the case.
“I still have nothing new on the three suspended players,” Riley said in his opening statement to the media on Tuesday. “I’ll let you know when I do.”
- Texas Tech head coach Matt Wells has some pretty high praise for Oklahoma’s redshirt freshman quarterback. Here’s what else he had to say about the Sooners.
“Arm talent, sick, I mean the guy flips his wrist and the ball flies. He’s very accurate, he can throw it on the run, he moves well in the pocket. He just, he has got big time arm talent.”
