Oklahoma’s heads south this weekend, but to familiar territory, to participate in the Gutterman Classic, hosted by the Baylor Bears. That means one of the opponents waiting for the Sooners this weekend will be Baylor, in a non-conference game.

The first three games of the weekend will be broadcast by Sooner Sports TV and then Sunday’s finale will air on ESPN+. Both services require a subscription but you could also listen to Chris Plan with the radio call on 107.7 The Franchise or The Franchise 2 (103.3 FM, 1560 AM) in Oklahoma and nationwide on the TuneIn app.
What We Learned Last Weekend
Oklahoma went 5-0 last weekend at the Mark Campbell Invitational, including three wins over Top 25 opponents. No. 14 Washington, No. 16 Duke, and No. 17 Stanford all fell to the Sooners in Irvine, California, as well as unranked Liberty and San Jose State. Here’s what we learned about OU through the first weekend.
- Oklahoma’s pitching staff is deep! Jordy Bahl (2), Nicole May, Alex Storako, and Kierston Deal all recorded wins from the circle last weekend.
- May was a workhorse! Jordy Bahl may have picked up two wins but Nicole May was the story in the circle out in California. Oklahoma’s junior hurler recorded a win, a save, and fanned a total of 18 batters in her two game appearances.
- This team still has power! Four different Sooner batters went yard during last weekend’s action. Alyssa Brito, Haley Lee, Grace Green, and Jocelyn Erickson all left the park during the Mark Campbell Invitational.
Against The Field
• Longwood: The Sooners meet the Lancers for the first time in the history of the two programs on Friday. Longwood had the biggest shocker during the season’s opening weekend with a 5-4 win over No. 4 Florida State in Tallahassee.
• Stephen F. Austin: OU holds a 12-0 all-time record vs. SFA. The teams will meet for the first time since 2009 on Saturday.
• Army: The Sooners and Black Knights meet for the first time in the history of the two programs on Saturday. Army is the only military branch that fields an NCAA Division I softball team.
• Baylor: OU meets Baylor in a non-conference matchup for the second-straight season after playing the Bears in Honolulu last season at the Rainbow Wahine Classic, a 12-3 OU win in five innings. In conference play a season ago, the Sooners swept the three-game series over Baylor.
Heavy Hitters
- Army’s Taylor Brown is batting is batting .400 with 2 RBI and a homerun.
- Baylor’s Aliyah Binford is batting .643 after the first weekend of the season. He has knocked it 5 RBI, scored 3 runs and gone yard once.
- Lindsey Hay is batting .444 for Longwood and has only struck out once in her nine at bats.
- Grace Lyons and Haley Lee are pacing Oklahoma with a .462 batting average. Lee had 5 RBI, 5 runs score, and a home run during the opening weekend. Lyons knocked in three runs and recorded the team’s only triple of the weekend.
- SFA’s Madison Nguyen is batting .423 heading into Waco with 4 RBI and 6 runs scored.
From The Circle
- Army’s Olivia Farris is 0-1 after last weekend but she has the staff’s lowest ERA at 4.94 and has recorded 5 strikeouts.
- Baylor’s Ava Knoll only pitched 3.1 innings of relief last weekend but she recorded 4 strikeouts and still has a perfect 0.00 ERA.
- Maggie Chapin scored the win over Florida State for Longwood. She went 1-1 over the weekend and has a team-low 2.21 ERA with 11 strikeouts.
- Niclole May made two game appearances for the Sooners, recording 18 strikeouts and protecting a 0.00 ERA.
- Alexis Telford has recorded 22 strikeouts for SFA and has a 2.33 ERA in four game appearances.
