Texas A&M enters the 2024 season looking to rebound from two consecutive disappointing campaigns. With new head coach Mike Elko and offensive coordinator Collin Klein at the helm, there’s a renewed sense of optimism in College Station.

A Resurgent Offense?

The Aggies’ offense has struggled in recent years, but there’s reason for hope. Quarterback Conner Weigman showed promise before an injury cut short his 2023 season. He’ll have a solid supporting cast, including experienced receivers Moose Muhammad III and Noah Thomas. However, the offensive line must improve to provide adequate protection for Weigman and open holes for the running game. Sophomore Rueben Owens is expected to be the focal point of the ground attack.

A Strong Defensive Foundation

The Aggies have a solid foundation on defense, particularly along the defensive line. The addition of Purdue transfer Nic Scourton bolsters an already impressive unit that includes Shemar Turner and DJ Hicks. The linebacking corps will need to replace the irreplaceable Edgerrin Cooper, but Taurean York and transfer Scooby Williams provide a strong starting point. The secondary, with playmakers like Bryce Anderson, has the potential to be a strength.

Special Teams Need a Boost

Texas A&M’s special teams unit struggled in 2023, and improvements are necessary. Replacing the dynamic return abilities of Ainias Smith will be a challenge, and kicker Randy Bond needs to be more consistent.

With a favorable home schedule and a talented roster, the Aggies have the potential to make significant strides in 2024. While a championship run might be optimistic, a nine-win season is a realistic goal.
