Oklahoma Softball Battle Series: Thrilling Tie in Game One

The Oklahoma softball team kicked off their fall season Wednesday night with an exciting 4-4 tie in their intrasquad scrimmage. Teams Boomer and Sooner had rosters filled with new faces, giving Patty Gasso the opportunity to showcase the talent and competitiveness of what will ultimately be her 2025 squad.

Returning senior Cydney Sanders emerged as the hero of the game, delivering a clutch two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the score. Her powerful swing sent the ball soaring over the center field wall, igniting a frenzy in the crowd.

Sanders went 2-for-5 with her two-run shot while Abigale Dayton produced a 4-for-5 performance in her OU fall debut. Team Sooner shortstop Ailana Bgbayani tripled on a night where she went 2-for-5 from the plate and also produced a stolen base.

From the other dugout, Ella Parker went 3-for-5 from the plate and Gabbie Garcia was 3-for-4. They each delivered three-hit nights for Team Boomer while Nelly McEnroe-Marinas blasted a monster solo home run.

Abigale Dayton, Ailana Agbayani, Ella Parker, and Gabbie Garcia all contributed with strong offensive performances. Dayton went 4-for-5 with a bunt single and a stolen base, showcasing her versatility. Agbayani impressed with a triple and went 2-for-5 with a stolen base. Parker and Garcia each had three-hit nights, demonstrating their offensive prowess.

On the mound, Sam Landry and Audrey Lowry shared pitching duties for Team Boomer, while Kierston Deal and Payton Monticelli pitched for Team Sooner. The pitching matchup provided a competitive battle between experienced and up-and-coming pitchers.

This opening game provided a glimpse into the competitiveness of the 2025 Oklahoma softball team. Game Two of the Battle Series is scheduled for Wednesday October 9th.
