For two innings Thursday night at John Cropp Stadium, Oklahoma looked every bit like the nation’s No. 1 team.
The Sooners were loose. Aggressive. Explosive.
Everything about the opening moments of Oklahoma’s SEC Tournament quarterfinal against Georgia suggested another postseason statement was coming from Patty Gasso’s club. The bats were alive early, the energy was high, and the Bulldogs appeared overwhelmed by the pressure of facing the SEC regular-season champions.
Then the game completely unraveled.
Ninth-seeded Georgia stormed back from a five-run deficit, scoring 10 unanswered runs to stun top-seeded Oklahoma 10-5 in one of the most shocking results of the 2026 college softball season. The comeback tied the largest rally in SEC Softball Tournament history and abruptly ended Oklahoma’s pursuit of a second consecutive SEC Tournament title.
What began as a potential coronation for the Sooners turned into a painful lesson in postseason volatility.
And for Oklahoma, the collapse raised uncomfortable questions heading into NCAA Tournament play.
