The Oklahoma Sooners began the season with a 108-89 victory over Omaha. Eclipsing the 100-point barrier marks the first time the Sooners have done so since 2016 against the Kansas Jayhawks. However, it’s the first time the program has opened with a 100-point performance since 1989. Here are a few points on the effort:
- Trae Young recorded a double-double in his college debut with 15 points and 10 assists. The true freshman led OU in both categories during the season opener.
- Oklahoma’s bench produced 51 points during the afternoon. Matt Freeman poured in 13 points, Jamuni McNeace added another 14, while guard Jordan Shepherd collected 10. This team has the potential to be the deepest bench of the Lon Kruger era.
- Likewise, the Sooners scored plenty of points in the paint while limiting the opponent. Fifty points in the paint make any team difficult to stop as they are high percentage shots.
- OU shot 55.7% from the floor through 40 minutes of play.
- The Sooners finished with 13 blocks on the outing led by McNeace’s six. It was a performance that fell one short of tying the program record.
- All 11 scholarship players scored in the season opener against Omaha.
