Oklahoma City Thunder | Game #33 Preview: Atlanta Hawks

The Thunder has a quick turnaround as they host the Atlanta Hawks on Monday night. OKC saw Isaiah Hartenstein, Isaiah Joe, and Ajay Mitchell all leave in the second half on Sunday, so the Thunder could be without them. However, Atlanta is dealing with health issues of their own. Kristaps Porzingis and Jalen Johnson are out due to illness, and Trae Young is questionable with a quad contusion.

Thunder Against the Spread | OKC Heavily Favored in Home SEGABABA Against Depleted Hawks

A lot of factors are contributing to this spread, so it’s a hard pick. Atlanta is riding a 6-game losing streak, will be without Jalen Johnson, and is possibly missing Trae Young as well. Meanwhile, OKC is coming off a home game yesterday afternoon and could be missing a handful of guys as well. The Thunder should win this one by double digits, but the Hawks are a good enough team to keep it reasonable, so I’m taking Atlanta to just barely cover, even if it is late in the game.

Oklahoma City Thunder | Game #3 Preview: Atlanta Hawks

The Thunder continues their current road trip tonight as they take on Trae Young and the Hawks (1-1) in Atlanta. The Hawks are fresh off a 111-107 road victory over the Orlando Magic. Atlanta is known for playing a fast-paced style of basketball—putting up a lot of shots and a lot of points—while not playing a great brand of defense, but Dyson Daniels has emerged as one of the league’s top defenders, and several other guys on the roster are playing solid team defense as well.

Thunder Against the Spread | OKC Continues Road Trip in Atlanta as Double-Digit Favorites Against Hawks

OKC has let lesser opponents play far too close lately but after the Thunder’s defense got off to a terrible start against the Nets on Wednesday, they managed to lock in late and turn the game around. The Hawks are a bit of a one-man show on offense right now, and they will go as far as Trae Young can take them. I think the Thunder’s defense looks more prominent than it has in a while, so I’m picking them to cover the spread late.

Oklahoma City Thunder | Game #3 Preview: Atlanta Hawks

Finally, the Thunder now gets to open up the season for fans at home as they play host to the Trae Young and the Atlanta Hawks. The Hawks are off to a great 2-0 start, but their victories have come a little differently. First off, their opponents have been pretty weak in terms of where they left off last season. A 120-116 victory over the Brooklyn Nets and a 125-120 win over the Charlotte Hornets—both at home—aren’t all that impressive. However, the Hawks have shot the ball extremely well, and while their defense is nowhere near what OKC is doing, their offense is formidable, so it should make for a fun matchup tonight.

Thunder Against the Spread | Take the Thunder to Dominate in Home Opener Against Hawks

I managed to lock in the Thunder at -9.5, but I do see this being a double-digit victory for OKC. They’re playing in front of what will be an extremely rowdy crowd coming out for the home opener, and while the Hawks are 2-0, they’ve been close victories against bad teams. OKC should open this one up early and maintain a solid lead to the end.

Oklahoma City Thunder | Preseason Game #5 Preview: Atlanta Hawks

The Oklahoma City Thunder will wrap up their preseason play on Thursday night as they host Trae Young and the Atlanta Hawks at the Paycom Center. The Thunder is fresh off a 124-94 dismantling of the Denver Nuggets thanks primarily due to defense that turned into offense, and they now hold a 4-1 record in the preseason. The Hawks enter this matchup at 1-2 in the preseason after a 120-111 loss in Miami last night against the Heat.

OKC has plenty of opportunities to show what they’re made of this month as they have a league-high 5 back-to-backs starting with tonight’s second game of a back-to-back on the road against the Atlanta Hawks. Despite making it to the Eastern Conference Finals just a few years ago, the Hawks have fallen off badly. Despite having one of the league’s top offenses, they are just 13-19 on the season due to their bottom tier defense.
