Auburn announced the hiring former Arkansas head coach Chad Morris to be its new offensive coordinator and that could be a bit of a problem for Oklahoma. No, the Sooners don’t have the Tigers on their schedule anytime soon but they do have a huge unmet recruiting need.
Oklahoma currently has at Top 10 recruiting class for 2020 but when you look at the impressive list of 19 commitments for the Sooners it won’t take long to realize it doesn’t include a quarterback. That’s where Chandler Morris enters into the conversation.
A 5-11/178 dual-threat quarterback, Morris is rated as a 4-star prospect by 247Sports. In two seasons as a starter for Highland Park (Dallas, Texas) Morris threw for 7,668 yards and 88 touchdowns. He also ran for 37 TDs and led his team to the 2018 state championship.
Morris has earned 15 scholarship offers including Oklahoma, Clemson, USC, Arkansas, and Auburn. A little over a month ago it was strongly thought that his decision was down to the Razorbacks and the Sooners with OU being a bit of a lean for him.
That all changed on November 10th when Arkansas fired his dad, Chad Morris, as its head coach. Following that moment it seemed almost a guarantee that Chandler Morris was heading to Norman as a part of the 2020 class. That became a whole lot less certain on Tuesday when Auburn announced the hiring of the elder Morris. Now, its safe to say, things just got a whole lot more complicated.
