Signing Day “Surprise” Jumps Sooners To #7 In A Class That Isn’t Finished

Once again Oklahoma’s signing class didn’t quite go as planned but this time it was in a good way. The Sooners inked all fifteen players who had verbally committed before the early signing period, that began today, and then got a present plus-one surprise in offensive tackle Savion Byrd.

Byrd made his announcement this morning proving that although he was thought to be a slight lean towards SMU the Sooners were right there as well.

A 4-star prospect from Duncanville High School (Texas), Byrd is rated by 247Sports as the #10 offensive tackle in the nation and the overall #12 prospect from the state of Texas. He becomes the twelfth 4-star prospect to sign with a 2021 Oklahoma class that also includes 5-star quarterback Caleb Williams. The Sooners saw an immediate jump in the recruiting rankings as well, moving up three spots to #7.

Oklahoma isn’t finished yet either. With decisions still lingering from Bryce Foster (December 18), Camar Wheaton (December 23), and Tristian Leigh January 2nd, there’s a good chance that the Sooners will add a few more to this class.
