Official Game Notes

The no. 11 Oklahoma State Cowboys dropped their first game of the season last weekend in a double-overtime loss to the TCU Horned Frogs. The Cowboys look to get back on track today as they host the no. 20 Texas Longhorns for Homecoming.

How the Cowboys Can Win

Oklahoma State absolutely has to figure out a way to be successful on the ground. Spencer Sanders is likely still dealing with a shoulder injury, despite head coach Mike Gundy’s reluctance to talk about it, so I’m not sure how much I would expect the Cowboys to be throwing the ball. If that’s the case, the run game has to get going early and often, and if Oklahoma State can find the end zone via the ground game, then it could be a very good Homecoming indeed.

How the Longhorns Can Win

Texas has a fairly balanced offense, scoring 16 touchdowns through the air and 13 touchdowns on the ground. Oklahoma State’s defensive front has been solid, but the secondary has been questionable at best. If the Longhorns manage a way to pick apart the secondary, the ground game will open up as a result, and the Cowboys will struggle to get stops. Texas needs to find success throwing the ball early if they want to win this one.
