Oklahoma State 17 – Wisconsin 24 | Cowboys Struggle with Pressure On and Off Field

After starting five games into the season, Oklahoma State showed no signs of dropping six of their next eight games, but that’s exactly what happened. Fingers can be pointed, and blame should be shared across the board for the most part, but perhaps all of the problems from the season can be summarized into one simple sentence: the Cowboys can’t handle pressure.

Oklahoma State vs. Wisconsin | Guaranteed Rate Bowl Preview: How to Watch, Storylines, Odds, and Predictions

The Oklahoma State Cowboy football season did not wrap up in a way that really anyone saw coming. After a 5-0 start, the Cowboys lost 5 of their last 7 games to finish the season 7-5. Injuries, inexperience, coaching…there are plenty of areas where you can point the finger of blame, but none of that matters now as Oklahoma State gears up to take on the Wisconsin Badgers in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl.

Oklahoma State Football | With Spencer Sanders Gone, Who is Up at QB?

With the departure of Sanders, the immediate focus questions becomes, “Who is going to be the starting quarterback in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl?” Perhaps more important, though, is deciding who will be the quarterback and, by proxy, the leader of this team. Here are the potential starters for the fall of 2023.

Oklahoma State vs. West Virginia | How to Watch, Storylines, Odds, and Predictions

Oklahoma State hosts West Virginia in the regular season finale Saturday morning, and while the Mountaineers have struggled to a 4-7 record, they cannot be overlooked. The Mountaineers aren’t exactly an offensive powerhouse, but they did manage a win against Oklahoma a couple of weeks ago, and Dante Stills is a monster on the defensive line.

Oklahoma State 20 – Iowa State 14 | Spencer Sanders Returns to Play, Leads Cowboys to Win

After playing for several weeks with an injury and sitting out altogether last week against Kansas, quarterback Spencer Sanders made his return to action in the second half of Saturday’s game against the Iowa State Cyclones. Trailing 14-10 at the time, the Cowboys had very little success on offense, despite the Cyclones having turned it over 5 times already, but Sanders was able to bring a different level of excitement to the game.

Oklahoma State v. Iowa State | Storylines, How to Watch, Odds, and Predictions

Find a way to score, and Oklahoma State can come away with a win. The offense has really struggled the last couple of weeks, largely due to the absence of the injured Spencer Sanders, and it is unclear at this point whether or not he will appear today. This week is especially important for the ball to move for a couple of reasons. First off, the Cowboys need some offensive momentum moving forward. Secondly, Iowa State’s offense is not great, so Oklahoma State’s defense should be able to get enough stops to give them a chance to win. Find the end zone early and get ahead, and I think the Cowboys could even run away with this one.

#18 Oklahoma State 16 – Kansas 37 | Cowboy Implosion Continues in Lawrence

The no. 18 Oklahoma State Cowboys were without quarterback Spencer Sanders on Saturday in Lawrence, but that was just one of the many issues that led to the eventual 37-16 loss to the Kansas Jayhawks. Player injuries piled up, the defense couldn’t stop making mistakes, and a season that looked so bright just a few weeks ago now looks doomed for mediocrity.

#10 Oklahoma State 41 – #20 Texas 34 | Cowboys Complete Comeback With Defensive Finish

The no. 10 Oklahoma State Cowboys entered their homecoming game on Saturday as a 6-point underdog to the no. 20 Texas Longhorns, and despite trailing 31-24 at the half, the Cowboys were able to put together quite a second half performance to come away with a 41-34 win. Texas managed just 3 points in the second half as Oklahoma State scored the final 17 points and pulled in two interceptions in the final 83 seconds of the game.

#11 Oklahoma State v. #20 Texas | How to Watch, Odds, Predictions, & Storylines

Oklahoma State absolutely has to figure out a way to be successful on the ground. Spencer Sanders is likely still dealing with a shoulder injury, despite head coach Mike Gundy’s reluctance to talk about it, so I’m not sure how much I would expect the Cowboys to be throwing the ball. If that’s the case, the run game has to get going early and often, and if Oklahoma State can find the end zone via the ground game, then it could be a very good Homecoming indeed.
