The Oklahoma Sooners are making a splash in the 2025 recruiting class, with their latest commitment propelling them into the top tier. On Tuesday, highly-touted cornerback Trystan Haynes pledged his allegiance to OU, solidifying Oklahoma’s presence among the nation’s elite programs.
Haynes, a four-star prospect according to 247Sports, is ranked as the No. 151 overall recruit and No. 18 cornerback nationally. He’s also considered one of the top-three players in the state of Oklahoma. His commitment wasn’t just a win for the Sooners on the field, it also paid dividends in the recruiting rankings.
Sooners Surge Up The Rankings
Thanks to Haynes’ commitment, the Sooners jumped two spots from sixth to fourth in the 247Sports team recruiting composite for 2025. This puts them ahead of USC and Clemson.
Oklahoma’s current class boasts a total point value of 225.05, placing them just behind the LSU Tigers for the third spot nationally. Notably, they also hold the No. 2 ranking within the prestigious Southeastern Conference (S.E.C.).
Building a Balanced Class
The Sooners’ 2025 class is well-rounded, featuring ten four-star recruits and five three-star prospects. With eight defensive commits and seven on the offensive side, Coach Brent Venables is strategically assembling a team with talent across the board. The average player rating for Oklahoma’s commits sits at a strong 90.40, placing them 18th nationally in this metric.
Looking Ahead
While Oklahoma has secured a strong foundation for their 2025 class, there’s still work to be done. Key decision dates loom for other top recruits, and the upcoming summer with official visits will undoubtedly shake up the rankings. However, climbing into the top four thanks to Haynes’ commitment is a significant accomplishment for the Sooners. It highlights their ability to attract elite in-state talent and bodes well for the future of the program.
