Steve Spurrier Jr. Leaving Oklahoma For Western Kentucky

Steve Spurrier Jr. is leaving the University of Oklahoma…again. The son of legendary coach Steve Spurrier was a member of Oklahoma’s coaching staff when the Sooners won the national championship back in 2000. He then went on to South Carolina to join his dad’s staff, in 2005, and remained with the Game Cocks until the end of the 2015 season.

Spurrier rejoined Bob Stoops’ staff in the spring of this year, and an offensive analyst, but it was never expected to be a long gig. Looking for an opportunity to get back on the field as a coach, rather than an analyst behind the scenes, Spurrier has accepted a position with new Western Kentucky head coach Mike Sanford.

While his role with the Hill Toppers has yet to be defined, Steve Spurrier Jr. has a more than solid track record, when it comes to coaching receivers, both at Oklahoma and South Carolina.
