Oklahoma State evened their baseball record to 5-5 on the season with a strong showing in Frisco, Texas over the weekend. The Cowboys sandwiched a 9-10 Saturday loss in between a 1-0 win over Nebraska on Friday and an 8-3 win over Arkansas on Sunday.
Senior Tyler Buffett improved his season record to 2-1 by winning a pitcher’s duel with the Husker’s Jonathan Heasley. Buffett fanned seven batters and held Nebraska scoreless over 7.1 innings of work and gained his run support off a run scored by Ryan Sluder, in the bottom of the third, off a wild pitch.
OSU went from the pitcher’s duel on Friday to a slug-fest on Saturday. Garrett McCain went 3-for-5 from the plate, scoring twice and knocking in three RBI, in a loss that featured 19 combined runs off 25 total hits. The game slipped away from the Cowboys in the bottom of the ninth when Arizona’s Matt Frazier scored on a Cal Stevenson double to center field.
O-State wrapped up the weekend by posting eight runs off ten hits to secure their fifth win of the season by way of an 8-3 defeat of Arkansas.
The Cowboys host Missouri State on Tuesday and then South Dakota State for a three-game series over the weekend.
