Blake Battenfield helped lead Oklahoma State in a 3-0 shutout win, at Reynolds Stadium, in Stillwater on Tuesday. The junior righty tossed seven scoreless innings and allowed only one hit while striking out a career-high six batters on 105 pitches.
UNM starter James Harrington matched Battenfield inning by inning until the Cowboys finally struck pay dirt in the seventh. OSU drew a pair of walks against Lobos reliever Brandon Langan and then Jon Littell hit a two-out RBI single for the first run of the game. Andrew Rosa would come home a little bit later, on a throwing error, to provide the second run of the game.
Garrett Benge made it a 3-0 score by belting his second home run of the season in the bottom of the eighth inning. Oklahoma State’s win snapped the Lobos’ seven-game winning streak and no doubt boosted their #18 ranking as New Mexico came to Stillwater as the top-ranked team in this week’s NCAA RPI.
