Mariah Lopez Loses First Game Of Season As OU Falls 3-1 To Cal Poly

From the thrill of victory to the agony of defeat adequately describes the week that Oklahoma pitcher Mariah Lopez has had. The Sooner freshman tossed a no-hitter against against Long Beach State on Wednesday, to improve her season record to 8-0, but then dropped her first loss of the season on Friday.

Lopez held Cal Poly scoreless through the first four innings but was struck for three runs in the fifth turning Oklahoma’s 1-0 lead into a 3-0 deficit. Paige Parker pitched the final 1.1 innings of relief, holding Cal Poly scoreless, but the Sooners were unable to muster any other runs after being held to the single run that came off Sydney Romero’s solo home run in the top of the first.

Oklahoma will wrap up its California trip by playing a double slate on Saturday. First up, is a rematch with Cal Poly, at 11:00 AM, before taking on DePaul at 1:00 Central Time.
