The Oklahoma State Cowboys found themselves in a desperate situation. Riding a six game losing-streak, O-State journeyed to Oklahoma City for the always highly anticipated Bedlam rivalry. Earning a series sweep, the losing streak quickly turned into a two-game winning streak. Returning to OKC, the Cowboys were looking for a first round win against the top-seeded Texas Tech Red Raiders.
Clearly, the capitol of Oklahoma has been kind to OSU as the Cowboys secured a third consecutive win inside Bricktown Ballpark. Shutting out the Red Raiders 3-0, O-State moves into the winner’s bracket. They’ll face the West Virginia Mountaineers on Thursday morning.
Leading the way, pitcher Blake Battenfield delivered six scoreless innings of work from the mound. During the effort, Battenfield allowed a mere four hits while giving up two free bases as well. Riding the pitching staff, OSU put the offense in a position to take control of the game.
Cade Cabiness and Garrett McCain provided two sac-flies to push two runs across the plate in the second and third inning. The final run of the morning came in the fourth inning. Connecting on a swing of the bat, Jon Littell’s single allowed Colin Simpson to cross home.
