Gaining an advantage in Super Regional play, the Oklahoma Sooners claimed a game one victory over the Auburn Tigers by a final of 4-0. Locked in a scoreless pitcher’s duel, it was Head Coach Patty Gasso’s offense breaking the trend in the sixth inning of play.

With two outs on the board, Nicole Pendley stepped up to the plate. Noting the two runners on base, Pendley delivered a double to left field. The effort allowed Sydney Romero to race around the bases from second to score. Breaking the scoreless drought, Oklahoma looked to push the lead out a bit further.

Holding a one run lead and building momentum, Macey Hatfield singled to keep the threat alive. Recording an RBI on the single to shortstop, Fale Aviu scored from third. In most cases, a 2-0 lead late in the game could easily be the decision maker. However, that doesn’t necessarily hold true when playing a program like Auburn with a trip to the WCWS on the line.

Knowing anything could happen, the defense continued a stellar outing led by Paige Parker in the circle. Refusing to give up a run, the defensive play allowed the offense to once again get back to work.

In the top of the seventh, the Sooners recorded four hits that began with a bunt from Nicole Mendes. Showcasing speed, the freshman made it on first safely setting up the batters behind her. Three hits later and OU’s lead ballooned out to 4-0 — a number the Tigers failed to contend with.
