In a top fifteen match-up, the No. 9 Oklahoma Sooners set their eyes upon Morgantown, West Virginia and the No. 14 Mountaineers. Looking to make a statement, Baker Mayfield and the rest of the crew dominated the first half of play. Tallying up 34 points through the first 30 minutes of play, the West Virginia Mountaineers mustered just seven during the same stretch.
Continuing the trend early in the second half, the Sooner defense one again found themselves bending but refused to break. Taking the snap, WVU’s Skylar Howard dropped back surveying the field. Throwing into double coverage beyond the sticks, Howard failed to recognize Oklahoma linebacker Jordan Evans sitting in the gap. As the ball made its way toward the intended receiver, Evans snagged it out of the air.
Finding some running room, Evans eventually returned interception for 80 yards and a score. Putting OU up 41-7, the program would cruise to yet another victory. But it did not come without its challenges.
