Storylines
UTEP is in a tough spot here. The Miners must show drastic improvement in order to save Sean Kugler’s job. Not only are they playing a Top 10 program on the road but they’re doing so without their top rusher and receiver from 2016. Their lone hope in this game is a stout offensive line that features an All-American at left guard Will Hernandez. However, for what they have along the line they lack at the skill positions. That implies a long night for UTEP.

Oklahoma also features a stout offensive line and the absence of 2016’s leading rusher and receiver. The Sooners do have a Heisman contender at quarterback and a defensive unit that returns nine starters and was playing and on elite level at season’s end. The Sooners will lean on that defense while they get their running game settled and Baker Mayfield builds chemistry with a new crop of receivers.
