Over the course of three years, Baker Mayfield has become quite an enigma. While some fans adore the quarterback, others despise not only him as a player but also his persona. Regardless of those feelings, it’s hard to ignore the accomplishments a former walk-on has achieved. The greatest of those may be the fact that Mayfield will finish his career with a 14-0 record in true road games.
In his first season as the Oklahoma Sooners’ starting signal caller, Mayfield led the program to the College Football Playoff. During the 2015-2016 campaign, the then transfer pulled out an improbable comeback in the second game of the year. Facing the Tennessee Volunteers in Knoxville, OU found themselves trailing 17-3 through three quarters of play. Rattling off two unanswered scores, the Sooners evened the score and later forced overtime. The result was a 2OT win over No. 23 Tennessee infront of 102,000 fans.
That year, Oklahoma went on to defeat No. 4 Baylor in Waco as well as No. 9 Oklahoma State in Stillwater to begin the streak at five.
As a junior, Mayfield would once again take the field looking for another run into the playoff. Behind a rocky start, Oklahoma’s 1-2 record all but assured that would not happen. Despite the early losses, the Sooners ran through the Big 12 unscathed including a win over No. 10 West Virginia in Morgantown and another over No. 21 TCU in Ft. Worth. A clean sweep of the conference pushed Mayfield’s road record to 9-0 at the conclusion of the 2016 season.
In 2017, the Sooners as well as Mayfield would receive their most difficult true road test by traveling to Columbus, OH to square off with the Ohio State Buckeyes. Not given a chance to win the game, the quarterback dared to defy odds eventually leading to a convincing win over No. 2 tOSU.
Using the momentum OU would put a spot in the Big 12 Conference Championship Game on the line against Kansas in the last true road game of Mayfield’s career. Dismantling the Jayhawks in Lawrence, the senior completed the feat of remainin undefeated on the road. The season included a win over No. 11 Oklahoma State in Stillwater as well.
Here's Baker Mayfield's stat line on the road in OU career:

Also has 10 rushing TDs. #Sooners

Overall, Mayfield helped Oklahoma defeat seven ranked opponents in true road games while staying perfect throughout the duration of his career. Again, an incredible feat in today’s game despite how one feels about the enigma that is Baker Mayfield.
