The Oklahoma Sooners started spring practice by searching for a new starting middle linebacker. Quickly turning heads, the name Kenneth Murray surfaced as a potential candidate to replace Jordan Evans. Evans moved on to the NFL and is currently playing for the Cincinnati Bengals. However, the budding star in Murray was a first year collegiate athlete and was bound to make freshman mistakes.
Earning the start in the debut, Murray has started all twelve games for the Sooners. Recording 65 tackles on the year, the freshman set a career high against the West Virginia Mountaineers with nine tackles. Behind 4.5 tackles for loss and a fumble recovery, the middle linebacker has produced a successful campaign.
The effort led the linebacker to a Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year award. Moving forward the expectations are going to grow for this defensive player especially after the label. Murray is just one of many Sooners to earn Big 12 Awards with the close of the regular season.
