The Oklahoma Sooners picked up yet another recruit, this time a local prospect. Completing his high schools days at Norman North High School, Drake Stoops has commuted to play for the University of Oklahoma. As a wide receiver, the son of Bob Stoops is a preferred walk-on.
A deceptively good playmaker, Stoops is a 3-star recruit according to Rivals. Racking up over 3,000 receiving yards over the past two seasons, the 5-11 WR set the all-time mark at Norman North. Yet, the skill set of this kid extends outside of just receiving ability.
A solid return man, Stoops showcases athleticism and speed. More importantly, the high school senior demonstrates ball security while valuing the football. His presence on campus should come as no surprise seeing as both his father as well as his uncle have coached at OU.
Choosing the preferred walk-on route, Stoops declined an offer from Iowa. Regardless, the kid is a steal for the Sooners in my opinion. It won’t be long before Stoops earns a scholarship.
