Oklahoma’s fantastic football weekend turned a little sour when running back Trey Sermon went down early in the first quarter of the spring game. Initially Sermon’s injury looked significant but, much to the joy of a previously stunned crowd, he was able to leave the field assisted.
Sermon reappeared later on in the game to stand on the sideline giving some assurance that things were going to be OK. The final words of comfort may have come from running backs coach Jay Boulware in an article published by OU Daily.
“I don’t want to lose anybody, I certainly don’t want to lose a guy that has the playing experience that Trey has,” Boulware said. “God worked everything out for him, his family and obviously us, but he first and foremost. He’ll be OK.”
Sermon rushed for 744 yards and five touchdowns in 2017.
