Improving to 14-3 in conference play with Saturday’s 10-1 win, the Oklahoma State Cowboys remain in first place in the Big 12. Taking the series over the Oklahoma Sooners in league play, O-State has now claimed five consecutive weekend series over Big 12 opponents. The two will meet once more on Sunday in the finale of the Bedlam Series.
After blanking the Sooners in the top of the first inning, the offense went to work against RHP Devon Perez. Recording five hits, Josh Holliday’s program put three runs on the board. Continuing to crush the opposition, Jon Littell and the rest of the ballclub increased the lead to 6-0 after two innings.
From that point on, the defense took over the game backing up Joe Lienhard. Refusing to give up a hit, the pitcher tossed four hitless innings. Breaking up the no-no, Kyle Mendenhall ripped a leadoff single to left field for Oklahoma to start the fifth. However, Littell gunned down the base runner who looked to steal a bit of momentum by stretching the single into a double.
Although the Sooners would score in the sixth inning, OSU shutdown their in-state rival with a four-run seventh inning. Now, the Cowboys are eyeing a series sweep and a sixth straight victory over Oklahoma. Tune in at 3:00 PM CST for the action.
