The Oklahoma Sooners received a bit of bad news on Tuesday afternoon. Freshman cornerback, Starrland Baldwin suffered a torn ACL during practice this week. After enrolling early, the athletic defender showcased the type of upside that excites coaches. Now, forced to the sideline, Baldwin’s progress suffers moving forward.
With the turn of events, the Houston native joins four others expected to miss the duration of the upcoming season. From Jalen Redmond and Michael Thompson to Prentice McKinney and Chanse Sylvie, all five player sit on the defensive side of the ball. For a rebuilding defensive unit, it’s certainly not the type of news fans desire to hear.
Despite the unfortunate news, the Sooners retain plenty of depth in the secondary due to the situation the played out last season. Baldwin has now suffered two ACL tears in the recent past and begins the process of returning to field. Hopefully, the youngster will be available for the Spring of 2019.
