Already road tested on the season, it’s time for the home crowd to get a good look at Oklahoma’s 2018-19 basketball season. The Sooners will host Wofford (2-1) this afternoon at the Lloyd Noble Center before heading to the Bahamas for the 2018 Battle 4 Atlantis.
Wofford returns four of five starters from last year’s team that finished 21-13 (11-7 in SoCon play) and pulled off the upset of then #5 North Carolina. The Tar Heels returned the favor by scoring a 78-67 win in the Terriers’ home opener but Wofford has gone on to win the next two.
Scoring an average of 76.3 points per game, the Terriers are paced by Fletcher Magee who is averaging 19.3 points per game. Magee also leads the team with 13 made three-point shots. He’s one of two Wofford players averaging double figures in scoring, with Storm Murphy (11.7) being the other.
The Terriers are shooting 38% from 3-point range with an average of 11 made per game. They are out-rebounding opponents by nearly four boards per game and holding them to an average of 57.7 points per game.
This won’t be a walk in the park, by any stretch, for the Sooners, but Oklahoma comes with their own set of stars. After leading the team in scoring in the season opener, senior guard Christian James was back at it again a few nights later with a team-high 24 point performance in the 87-67 win over UTSA. James leads the Big 12 in scoring with 26.5 points per game and his field goal percentage of .630 (17-of-27) is fourth among Big 12 players who have taken at least 20 shots.
Aaron Calixte added 18 points, and four assists, in the win over UTSA with Brady Manek recording his second double-double, in as many games, with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
The Sooners are looking to start the season 3-0 for the fifth time under Lon Kruger.
