Oklahoma Sooners Come Up Short Against Texas Longhorns, 75-72

Initially clinging to a 69-68 lead on a Joel Bieniemy three pointer, the Oklahoma Sooners hoped to finish off the Texas Longhorns with 1:22 left in regulation. Dropping back to the defensive side of the court, Christian James committed a crucial foul sending Matt Coleman to the charity stripe. Making the most of the opportunity, the Longhorns flipped the script by connecting on both attempts. The effort put the pressure back on the visiting Sooners to make something happen.

In-bounding the ball, the program looked toward James to finish the second half like he finished the first — with a made basket. Instead, the senior bounced the ball off his foot granting Texas an opportunity to distance themselves from their opponent.

Trading three pointers down the stretch, fans sat on the edge of their seats as the winner remained uncertain. With the game now sitting at 75-72 after a Jaxson Hayes free throw in favor of the Longhorns, chaos sat on the horizon. Missing the second attempt from the line, the Sooners’ Kristian Doolittle ripped down the rebound. Pushing the ball up the court, Aaron Calixte let one sot go from beyond the three point line with three seconds left.

Missing the mark, Doolittle once again secured the rebound before firing up an attempt from three point land on his own. Unfortunately for Oklahoma fans, the shot failed to find the bottom of the net as time expired. Dropping the contest in Austin 75-72, OU certainly had a chance to steal a game on the road in conference play.

For now, the program must look to the next one.
